Local Psychologist Wins a 2015 APA Early Career Achievement Award

Brandon, Fla. – Dr. Nekeshia Hammond was one of just 25 recipients of the 2015 APA Early Career Achievement Awards by The Committee on Early Career Psychologists. The Committee on Early Career Psychologists was founded by The American Psychological Association. Out of hundreds of applicants nationwide, this prestigious honor is given to select individuals based on their achievements and demonstration of astute leadership in the field of psychology.

On getting the award Dr. Hammond had this to say, “I am so honored to be recognized as a leader in my industry. I am also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work in a field that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.”

Award recipients also received a small stipend toward the APA Annual Convention, which will be held in Toronto in August of this year. Dr. Hammond is an APA early career member and will be a first-time convention attendee.

About Dr. Nekeshia Hammond

Dr. Nekeshia Hammond is the owner of Hammond Psychology & Associates, P.A. a private practice working with children, teens, families, and adults on an array of clinical issues. Her focus is primarily on clinical and forensic evaluations. She is also a clinical supervisor for doctoral level students attending the Florida School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University Tampa where Dr. Hammond received her own doctorate. The doctoral level students provide therapy at a reduced fee to members of the community. The office offers a free social skills group for homeschoolers as well.

A strong advocate of giving back to the community, Dr. Hammond has helped with several organizations in the Tampa Bay area including the Guardian Ad Litem program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Joshua House, National Military Family Association, and the Angel Tree program. Her dedication to community service led to her being awarded with the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Obama in 2012. Dr. Hammond’s life mission is to help as many people as possible. Recently, Dr. Hammond was also the winner of the 2014 “What a Woman Award” from the Florida Psychological Association.
