The hormonal imbalances and the challenges that teens face today, can trigger a variety of moods. For some teens, the complications of daily life can become overwhelming can lead to deep depression. For others, the personalities encountered amongst peers and teachers can result in extreme happiness one moment, and inescapable anger the next. One thing that may help your teen is to journal or track their moods to understand how they are feeling, and possibly to see what may be causing their moods so that they can gain control over their thoughts and emotions. Here are three mood journaling apps to consider:

Moodtrack Diary: Social Mood Tracker & Mood Tracking Journal

Available for iOS and Android systems – Moodtrack Diary allows you to graph and track your moods as frequently or infrequently as you would like allowing you to see when you have been having mood swings, and when you’re most likely to have a good or bad mood.

Moody Me

Develeoped by MedHelp.org, this app is only available for iOS. This diary app allows you to not only track if you’re in a good mood or bad mood, but also allows you to write a note as to what you think may be causing your current mood. It also has a function to track any mood disorders you may have, as well as any medications you may be on. Finally, the app has an area to save pictures of what makes you happy so that when you need an instant lift, you can play them back to yourself.

Mood Barometer

Available for Android systems, this app allows you not only to view and journal your own mood, but also to view the moods of different people around the world in a Twitter-like manner. This app also allows you to grade and track how you feel you’re doing health wise, how you feel about current relationships and events, and whether or not your dreams have been positive or negative lately.

Now, I want to hear from you. Have you ever used a mood journaling app? If so, what was your experience with it?
